John Stewart

John Stewart

To refer to John as just a song writer does not do him justice. He was one of America's great poets. John passed away on Jan. 19, 2008, in the hospital he was born in, 68 years ago. In the five decades of his writing, he became a window and sometimes a mirror to America.

He was there on the road in 1968 with Bobby Kennedy on "The last Campaign". He stood in awe with all the world, when a man named "Armstrong" walked upon the moon. He took us on a life's journey down the "Blue Dream Road". Along that Mother Road he introduced us to a woman named "July" and taught us all how to be "Day Dream Believers". He will be greatly missed, not just for his wonderful music and story, but for his friendship and light.

To listen to John Stewart is to "Remember America".

He wrote "Waiting for Castro to Die"over ten years ago. Johnny's "America" has changed a lot in those ten years. Cuba however was frozen in time. A capsulized society. While some sought to keep Castro's Cuba in a black and white world, the people of Cuba made a world of vibrant color for themselves. Thru their music and dance and there food and art they remain a people of hope and ideals. Their spirit is full of light and love.
